Thrills and spills of motor racing

G'day

Winter is hinting its arrival and the weather is absolutely glorious with endless blue skies and misty mountain mornings! Hope you are all enjoying the fact you can pull on your fluffy slippers and snuggle up under am doona. I know I am!

Today I wanted to share a few photos of my two brothers, Kain and Johnny, who have a passion, (or should I say obsession!)  with motor car racing, similar to that of writing for me.

They started off racing stock cars on the dirt track in Mareeba. It was so much fun to watch but even more fun to hop in. I would hold onto the seat with both hands and squeal with delight as we tore around the track.

The most memorable time was when another stock car racer clipped Johnny's car, sending us sliding, (at top speed I might add!) into the scrub that surrounds the race track. I squeezed my eyes shut, my heart thumping its way out of my chest, adrenaline sensitising every cell in my body. The stock car came to rest on its side with Johnny laughing like a crazed adrenaline junky and me trying to pull my fingernails free from the vinyl seat.

From stock car racing my brothers have moved onto to bigger things, racing in Formula 3 and the mini car challenges around Australia. There have been some magnificent thrills and some colossal spills! Last year Kain had a blow-your-mind accident when he lost control of his mini after another car clipped him, sending the mini cart-wheeling into the spectators. Kain blacked out during the accident, only coming to when the car came to rest amongst the crowd. He panicked when he saw where the car was and was terrified he had injured or killed someone. Luckily, that wasn't the case.

We all have different dreams and desires in life, theirs is racing, mine is writing, for others it will be completely different. That is the beauty of this world, I think, we are all so unique. It makes life so refreshing and exciting, don’t you think?

THOUGHT FOR THIS WEEK
You know your children have grown up when they stop asking you where they came from and refuse to tell you where they are going.

Only 31 more sleeps and my debut novel, Rosalee Station, will hit the shelves! Who said I'm counting! LOL!How exhilarating!

Until next week, keep smiling and dreaming!
Mandy :-)
